Surely, you've thought about it. What an amazing collection of coincidences that make life on this planet possible? We are just the right distance from the sun, we have water in abundance, an atmosphere to breathe, protection from lethal solar radiation. We also benefit from all the variations in climate, topography, vegetation. When you add the huge array of human culture to it, you begin to see all the things that make our Earth an amazing and interesting subject of study.If you don't already see these endless possibilities as something you would enjoy doing for an hour every weekday, I hope that you will at least approach this class with an open mind and a willing spirit.
